This collection contains letters between William F. Stevenson and Franklin Roosevelt concerning the Home Owners' Loan Corporation and Stevenson's position on the board. Additionally, one letter from Roosevelt outlines Roosevelt's inability to reappoint Stevenson to the board because of age restrictions. The collection also contains two invitations; one inviting Stevenson to the 1937 inauguration fro Roosevelt, and one inviting Stevenson to a reception celebrating the twenty-second anniversary of the October Revolution in the Soviet Union.

William Francis Stevenson was salutatorian of the Davidson College class of 1885. While a student, he was a member of the Philanthropic Society. After graduation, he studied law. He served in the South Carolina legislature from 1896 to 1902 and was speaker of the house from 1900 to 1902. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1916 and served until 1932. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. He was the son of James (lawyer, financier) and Sara (Delano) Roosevelt. He married Anna Eleanor Roosevelt on March 17, 1905, and had six children: Anna, James, Franklin, Elliott, Franklin Jr., John. He received his B.A. from Harvard in 1904 and later attended Columbia University Law School.
